Spring break is just around the corner! Don't leave yet--we have a great event for you later this week and a number of scholarship opportunities. So here is this week's Comm-Announce from the Department of Communication.
5K SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENTS WHO WANT TO WRITE
The Department of Communication is pleased to again offer the Renau Scholarship for students who love to write. This $5,000 scholarship is open to returning students who will have at least 60 credit hours completed by the end of this semester, with a preference given to Communication majors and minors. The scholarship honors the memory of the late Ken Renau, a UofL graduate who spent the latter years of his life writing for a number of publications. Whether you are interested in writing for newspaper, magazine, TV, social media, blogs, screenplays, theater, books, or any other platforms, this scholarship is intended to support your efforts.
To apply, you'll need a cover letter that articulates your passion for writing, a resume and samples of your best work. Application deadline is noon on March 29. Email your application materials to firstname.lastname@example.org with Renau Scholarship in the subject line.
SPORTS JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP
Application deadline for our $1,500 Jim Bolus journalism scholarship is also coming up on March 29. This scholarship honors the late Jim Bolus, a legendary sportswriter with the Courier-Journal. The Bolus Scholarship is open to all students who are interested in careers in journalism but are NOT graduating this May. Preference will be given to Communication majors or minors who can demonstrate an interest in sports reporting, particularly turf writing.

AND ANOTHER WRITING SCHOLARSHIP

His diploma was awarded posthumously. Ryan wrote for The Cardinal and was particularly interested in writing about music. The $500 award honors his memory and is aimed at students who are also interested in writing about music.
