COMM-ANNOUNCE 04-05-2021

Volume 36, Number 13
April 05, 2021

Monday morning means more news from the Department of Communication. First, an important message from the Communication faculty and staff about recent events in our nation. Here is this week’s Comm-Announce.

The rise in hate crimes against the Asian American/Pacific Islander community and the mass shooting in Atlanta on March 16th are terrifying and heartbreaking. These disturbing acts occurring in the AAPI community have been on the rise since the COVID-19 pandemic emerged. The long history of white supremacy, misogyny, and xenophobia in our country is wide and deep, and needs to be addressed immediately when surfacing. As a department, we stand in solidarity with those who experience micro and macro aggressions, marginalization, threats, discrimination, and harm based on their identity, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and physical appearance. We condemn any form of prejudice, marginalization, and violence. We ask you to stand with us by checking on, saying hello to, and being kind to individuals and families who do not look like you and to speak out and stand up against all forms of oppression, hate, xenophobia, and violence.
